Becka Whelan created Ziva Yoga to empower people through yoga. Ziva means radiance and Yoga means union, yoga can heal and transform lives. So many benefits of yoga happen when you step off the mat and take your mindfulness into your life.
Becka Whelan is a Yoga Teacher and Florist. Her personal philosophy is Do yoga, Be yoga- meaning that she believes people should not only practise yoga but become more yogic in life; by taking the lessons in yoga beyond the mat into the everyday. Becka has over eight years experience working in human rights and empowerment and is excited to combine her passion for healthy living with her humanitarian background.
Becka first discovered the joy of yoga ten years ago whilst conveniently living opposite a Bikram Yoga Centre. As a dancer she was seeking something that focused on mindfulness rather than competition
Becka’s real passion for yoga developed during the three years she spent living in Nairobi, Kenya, she worked with local & international NGOS empowering women through human rights. It was here that she came across the Africa Yoga Project, a project that empowers Kenyans, mainly, disadvantaged people living in Kibera, the biggest slum in Nairobi. She saw first-hand that yoga can change lives and empower people. On her return to London, Becka continued her work in women's rights with Eaves (a Charity that works with survivors of violence and human trafficking), and here she witnessed the therapeutic benefits of yoga.
In 2013 she qualified as a Vinyasa Flow Yoga Teacher (Yoga Alliance Certified) with Yoga London. In August 2014 she qualified as a Pre & Post Natal Yoga Teacher with appleyoga (Yoga Alliance Certified). In June 2019 she will complete a 100 hour training Depth with Satu Yoga. This training covers Yin and Yang yoga and elements of Chinese medicine.
Becka believes that through the practise of yoga it’s possible to live a more peaceful, productive and ethical life. Her teaching style is often playful and she believes that yoga should ultimately be an enjoyable experience. She is currently based in Amsterdam.
